What is Boudoir Photography?

A boudoir session is an empowering experience, one that I believe everyone deserves to feel, it's a chance to step into your sexuality, to honour your sensuality and beauty. There doesn't have to be a special occasion to experience this, contrary to popular belief, a boudoir shoot is not just reserved as a birthday, anniversary or wedding gift, it is your gift to yourself and a great way to boost your confidence. You are beautiful and worthy, you deserve to feel like the goddess you are, let your boudoir photos remind you of that when you forget.

I will guide you through every step of the process, from deciding which package will suit you best, what style of boudoir you would like to embrace, outfit choices, and of course posing.

What To Expect From Your boudoir Shoot With Bettie Bombshell Photography

The first massive step that any woman takes when deciding on doing a boudoir shoot is that she's agreeing to open herself up to a virtual stranger. This can be a very scary experience for anyone, regardless of their confidence levels, and that is why finding a photographer who understands this vulnerability is more important than what you choose to wear on the day. The camera captures everything; and no amount of hair or make up will be able to hide the apprehension on the face of a lady who is unsure or who is nervous about being photographed. You are after all in a very personal position. This is why having a female photographer who will work with you to put you at ease before the first image is captured is so important, and this is exactly what I strive to achieve with every one of my clients.

My goal is to capture you in the purest and most beautiful way possible, and sadly many women don't see themselves as the pure beauties that they are. I endeavour to show you just how wrong you are, and have you see that beneath all of your daily responsibilities, you are still a gorgeous woman worthy of being captured.

With Boudoir photography, the emphasis is on celebrating the form of a woman. Regardless of shape or size, confidence levels or reservations; my aim is to capture your form in the most flattering and beautiful way possible. After all, a Boudoir shoot is a great way to show off your assets and have some fun while doing it!

How to Prepare for your Boudoir Shoot

There is a whole lot more that goes into a Boudoir shoot than what you might think, and being properly prepared for your moment in the spotlight is crucial to a successful shoot.

Here are a few things to remember;

• Loosen Up! Try to wear loose clothing before you shoot. This way you won’t have any red marks showing up on your skin.

• Skip the fake tan! It is especially tricky to avoid this when you have a fair complexion, but the camera is only going to enhance the unnatural orange tinge that you will get with fake tan.

• Lather Up! Don’t skimp on the body lotion or oil. When your skin is moisturised, you create a natural glow that shows in your photos and will leave you looking heavenly! Take your lotion with you on the day as well to keep your glowing skin silky.

• False Lashes are Your Friend! Although you might think that it will look fake in real life, it is an absolute must in photos! You don’t really notice them in the photographs, but you can tell that you don’t have them if you were to be without. Make sure that you get yourself a set of high quality lashes for the day; they accentuate your eyes and give them a dramatic sensual effect that will not go unnoticed!

• It’s all about Timing. When booking your shoot with me, try scheduling it around your monthly cycle. It’s very difficult to feel sensual when you’re uncomfortable in your own skin, rather have your shoot after your monthly visitor has left.

• Go Lingerie Shopping! You have my full permission to treat yourself to beautiful lingerie! While it is important for a woman to treat herself at least once a year, it is especially important to get yourself new, beautiful items of lingerie especially for your shoot. Who knows if you’ll ever do something like this again, so make it worthwhile? I talk a bit more about lingerie choices further on in this nifty guide!

• What about my Tummy? I definitely don’t encourage that you go on any crash diets or starve yourself before the shoot, it is important to eat and drink healthily! However, there are certain foods and drinks that do cause bloating, so try to avoid those for a few days before the shoot.

• Mani and Pedi Please! Having a manicure and pedicure done are such great treats that allow you to feel feminine in such an easy way. Busy ladies forget about their hands and feet, but they do show up in a lot of your photos. Chipped nail polish doesn’t look very pretty at all, and we want all of you to match! Try choosing a neutral nail colour so as not to distract from your gorgeous face for your romantic boudoir shoot. If your shoot is Pin Up or Vintage inspired, then bring on the red nail polish!

• Invest in this Moment. A Boudoir shoot is generally a once in a lifetime event, and only a few ladies will ever do it more than once – so the photos that you receive will be a lasting memory. Think of the gorgeous photographs of your grandmother in her heyday? Let these photos be your classic photograph that you can use to show your granddaughter how beautiful you looked. Your husband won’t complain either!

• Don’t be Afraid! I promise that you will look incredible! You’re expected to be a little bit nervous when we get started, and that’s alright too! Your nerves and insecurities will start to diminish as you get in front of the camera; this is your time to shine! Nerves and the lack of confidence will show up in your photos, so keep reminding yourself that regardless of how you think you look, I will make you look amazing in the end! Just talk to me, tell me what you don’t like about your body and what you love, and we’ll work with those parts to get the most beautiful shots!

• This is for YOU! Even though you might be planning on gifting these to your significant other, these pictures are really about you. The experience is all yours and I want you to be comfortable and have fun while you’re doing it. It is just you and I in the room anyway, you’re allowed to be yourself, let go and bring out your inner goddess!

• Don’t push too Hard. It is so important that you remain comfortable and happy during the entirety of our time together, so if you feel like you want to stay covered the whole time; that’s alright too. Many ladies have said that they would stay covered up, but in the end they get so into the swing of things that they step outside of their comfort zone a little bit more. I’m not saying that you need to be totally nude either, I want to make your photos tasteful and classy while at the same time creating something that you (and your significant other) will adore! Some of the best shots that I get come when you relax and let your guard down just a bit. Besides, I will never post any of your photos without your permission, so no one else will know!
